Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Learning Spaces provide instruction for children?

Learning Spaces are commercial sites that provide a safe and comfortable environment for all grade school children to access their online or home based learning program.  Our campus style locations group similar age kids into "pods" who remain together and are able to benefit from socialization and peer support in addition to adult supervision and general assistance.  Certified teachers are on site for special needs but instruction is provided after 3PM if you have elected to have add supplemental program.

Are children required to wear masks or face coverings?

While in their assigned rooms, children are not required but are welcome to wear masks. Interaction between "pods" is only allowed outdoors, although prolonged contact is not allowed.  Workstations are distanced and dedicated to avoid close or mixed contact.

Are there specific Covid19 safety precautions in place?

In addition to physically separating the kids in groups of 12 or less while in their respective study area, Learning Spaces has the following policies (subject to change from local, state and federal guidelines): temperature checks for kids and adults entering buildings; Daily disinfecting of shared surfaces (https://www.garlandco.com/); Hand sanitizer throughout plus hand washing encouragement; minimal close contact group activities while indoors; work stations are separated within the peer groups (Pods).

What is the commitment for my child to stay in the program?

Once your Learning Spaces program begins, it will be a week to week plan.  Unless you disenroll your child, the program will continue throughout the school year based on the majority of San Diego districts.  Due to limitations with group sizes please provide 2 weeks notice if you will be taking your child out of the program. You will be billed weekly 3 days before the start of each enrolled week.

What are the costs for participation?

Learning Spaces has 3 different levels of participation.  The full day program is from 8AM to 3PM (please see below for pick up & drop offs) and is designed to support either district distant learning, home school or other remote and self guided learning curriculum.  This program is $145 for the first child and $110 for siblings from the same family per week.  The second program is an enrichment camp that includes a variety of activities with instructors and counselors as well as tutoring sessions.  You will be notified about available sessions upon registration but the program is provided by Encore Creative Arts Camp and has similar structure.  As a stand alone program, if they are not part of the full day session, the cost for the enrichment camp is $145 and $110 for siblings per week.  Finally, we have a combination of both programs which is $220 and $185 for siblings.  We also offer a drop in program if you wanted only certain days.  This is $35 per day with after school being $25.

What about district and family vacations?

Vacation weeks are set based on the majority of local school districts and the San Diego Unified calendar.  For other off weeks, please let us know your planned scheduled in advance so we can remove from the roster for that week.

What ages do you accept?

We accept all school age children starting from grades KG up to 12.  Kids will be assigned a room based on grade level and with supervisors who best fit that level.  Older children, although more self sufficient, will benefit from a focused environment and structure as well as in-person peer support and tutoring. If there are younger siblings, please complete the form below as we are working with a third party daycare provider to offer the service at the Kearny Mesa facility.

What if school starts back up in full or in part?

As the program is week to week, you will be able to move your children into school or other programs as you see fit.  It is not expected that school districts will have enough capacity to meet the demand of parents who want to send kids to full time school. Many districts are considering alternate day classes and AM/PM options.  As these plans materialize, we will be able to accommodate alternating schedules as needed. That being said, we firmly believe that the Learning Spaces structure is the future of education for many families.  We have drop in options, however which can be chosen week to week.

Can I request to be in a particular group?

We have families who want to combine their kids onto a particular group which may be made up a friend or kids in the same class.  We welcome such requests and will be able to assign kids to specific groups once registered in the program.

What about lunches?

The Encore Event Center & Learning Spaces campus is a drop off location for the National School Lunch & Breakfast Program through the San Diego Unified School District.  This includes free and reduced price lunches.  Please check the district website for information and application www.sandi.net/food

What if my child is Special Needs?

We are working with the local school districts to provide qualified staffing for special needs children.  Please complete the contact form below with your particular situation.

Final thoughts to consider:

As districts are in flux with changing curriculum and timing, we are not able to provide all answers as even the school administration itself is pioneering new systems so we are being flexible as programs are implemented.
